The Wheelin’ Wizards

What an adventure!

6am – the greyhound pulls into Canberra bus station. We’re feeling a bit groggy, but our necks are feeling fab; all thanks to the swanky neck pillows that Jane supplied us with.

We thought that Canberra was lovely! We thought that there were lots of similarities to Washington D.C. – lots of space and big monuments.

We decided to see the city from the bike angle! We were very happy tootling around on our bikes in the suburbs, but when the road turned into freeways we decided to just push the bikes along next to us…still pretty aesthetic.

And then the journey took an adventurous turn!! Rob and Anne (who were very lovely to house us for a couple of nights) let us borrow their Toyota to travel around in – an amazing travel companion complete with pop up tent strapped to the roof.

On Sunday the 3rd March we set off in our little Yute to Jervis Bay, a three hour drive to the coast. This was our first, proper beachy experience of Aus and it did not disappoint! The sand was gloriously white and the sea tremendously turquoise – super super beautiful! We were just taking a little stroll up the beach when suddenly we turned around and people we’re sprinting up the beach behind us…a little confused, we looked in the sea and saw a whole pod of dolphins leaping through the waves!🐬 AMAZING 🌊

In all this excitement we did forget to book a campsite, but luckily we stumbled across a jem that was right on the beach and stayed there for the evening. After a bit of tragic cooking in the dark, we hunkered down in our little tent on top of the Yute ⛺️

The next day we headed up the coastal path into the Blue Mountains just outside of Sydney. We stayed in Katoomba but managed to explore Leura and Wentworth as well in the two days that we were there. We did fabulous hikes from Katoomba – Leura; seeing crazy parrots, beautiful cascades and the three sisters. We also found an amazing restaurant called the Yellow Deli, run by a local religious community and making us feel right at home after a long drive!

Before we headed into Sydney to return the car to Rob we managed to fit in a hike around Wentworth Falls – just glorious.

It was an amazing few days, and just what we needed before heading back into the crazy urban life! Thank you so much to Rob and Anna for lending us their car and for housing us.

Now, after 2 weeks of putting it off, it’s time the wizards braved a hostel – will we be able to deal? Find out in our next blog.

For now, however, farewell. Sydney we’re coming to create that thunder down under!

Love,

The Wizards x
